I Love You All… Goodbye.

Posted by Aleshia in Uncategorized

The last two years I have dreaded these awful blogs. Usually I have a countdown, which allows me to do as little work as possible, but now I think I’ll take my time. HTV Magazine has been the best part of my high school career! I’ll be honest I hated school before I got into this program. So now as I write my final blog at dear ‘ol Hillcrest High I want to say a little thing to each of my fellow staffers because you all are my family and I love you!

Alex- You are a complete spaz but I absolutely love you! I have so many bruises because you are violent and no matter what I’d still be your roommate when you come to Drury! I’m going to miss you on long flights, I just don’t think I can handle it without you!

Allison- Well despite all of your stories you have done since you’ve been on staff you know your best story was “Behind the Buzz” I mean come on we were the best partners ever! Speaking of that I’m sorry you had to edit by yourself.

Charles- Sing! Even though we are engaged I feel you have far more talent for Springfield, Missouri. So if you don’t want to follow me around all day singing a soundtrack of my life I hope you make it to be a national news anchor, where you belong! Oh and every time I watch The Office without you it just won’t be the same…. Fifth block was amazing!

Curtis- Rob was right… You are not scary! I could beat you easily so don’t even try me! I’m glad I was able to get to know you. I now realize that you are like a little teddy bear with an awesome I Love Hamburger shirt that matches Mehleena

Derek- I feel like since we have four more years together I don’t have to get all mushy on you! Arena football was an interesting test for our friendship and I’m glad we didn’t do another story together. I must say you do make an amazing Wal-Mart chicken run buddy… Those ladies totally know us now!

Erin- Well let’s just take a minute to remember some of our greatest stories… cosmetology school, a tank away, “bull” riding. Although they might have been the worst stories ever they were some of the best times in HTV. I will always remember us just laughing about the failure of our stories and staring at the computer for hours trying to edit. I love you, that’s it… I love you!

Fran- Ok I’ll say it you’re not as scary as Lillian! You know it’s really hard to say goodbye to someone you love! I’m going to miss you so much! You have always been a package deal with Lillian, and I love it that I was just as close to you. You knew everything Lillian knew and I’m going to miss you two! Professor Whistlestop!

Jordan- Even though you stole my best friend, just kidding, I’m glad we were a team last year! Ok well home drug testing wasn’t our best but come on the tank away was awesome!

Julie- Throughout HTV I have really looked up to you! You have amazing writing and editing skills that really get you to know the characters or event. Behind the scenes at the Springfield Cardinals was a very memorable story for me. The screen slit in four parts while the gut was explaining how everything worked. You are one of the sweetest people I know, and you will do great things in the future!

Kendra- You are the best Co-Line Producer ever! I’ve had so much fun spending late nights in edit four eating the food our moms brought. We always got so distracted with funny stories that would make us laugh forever.

Lauren- Ah Lauren… I’ll miss your late night comedy show every night on vacation! Erin and I are lucky we got to see your amazing talent in Anaheim and Hawaii, although Hawaii was not that fun for you. I’m sorry I got a little messy at times but I’d like to think I was a better roommate than others!

Lillian- No words can describe how much I love you, even when you are scowling ha ha just kidding! You are one of my eldest friends and you will always hold a special place in my heart. Besides you will always be Helen’s mom, the acting was so convincing.

Mehleena- I’m going to be honest you were the one junior girl that intimidated me at the beginning of the year. I think it was the strong voice that did it, I always pictured you just screaming at me. Now I could definitely take you! Oh but I wouldn’t because I absolutely love you, my airplane hand-holder! Sorry about that flight I know it was a rough one.

Rachel- Well I must say you were the brains behind Helen Keller which rocketed us into fame. Although the first version was a little rough it was so much fun. I can remember trying to get the Brazilian to pronounce English words. It was an amazing experience and I’ll never forget it Ann or perhaps Anne, I feel ashamed I don’t know.

Rob- First I’d like to say “We’re going to New York!”… maybe. I’ve had so much fun with you this year you are the best junior partner ever, even though you were the only one I ever had. I do know why they call you the Robinator!

Sarah- Well I’d like to say you were a great anchor! I know every makes fun of you but you should have seen me reading from the prompter my junior year, it was awful! You are such a sweetheart and I’m going to miss you junior girls the most!

Valery- Ok even though I am Professor Whistlestop’s rightful mommy I think he misses you sometimes. Hey now I AM taking care of him so don’t you worry!

And Coach, I know I’m no Quinci Adams but I hope someday years from now you’ll remember my name. It’s been an honor being a part of HTV! I just want to say thank you for giving me the chance, even though at times I’m sure you regretted it! You are the reason I rode in my first airplane, even though the first time was an experience I’d rather forget. You gave me a love for finding a story and the ability to shoot and edit, ok well that talent is a bit iffy. Also I know Kendra was a better suited Line Producer but thank you for giving the position to me as well I had so much fun. HTV was the only reason I began to like high school because it gave me a home away from home. I will always keep in touch because I’m going to miss you so much… Even though you like Taylor Swift! Oh and in the future if I ever have a Carrie Underwood question you’ll be the first person I ask. Enjoy the new room without me! Oh and the spring break trip, you know it’s going to be weird without me!!

Good Times In Hawai’i!

Posted by Aleshia in Uncategorized

Aloha! Ha, aloha get it, they say that in Hawaii!!! So my Spring Break was absolutely amazing, I’m not going to lie, and everyone should be really jealous! The fact that we were all soaking up the sun on the warm beach while everyone in Springfield had to battle the floods just shows you how great it was. Okay I guess I’m going to stop gloating now, only for Lillian’s sake… If you don’t know what happened to Lillian I encourage you to read her blog. So now, as always I’m going to do a countdown over my favorite moments of Hawaii!!!!

10. The 10 hour flight, I might seem a bit sarcastic but it’s always fun to bond with your friends, eat bad food, play with the lights (Erin, Jordan, Lauren, Derek, Charles, Alex), and watch touching movies!
09. The amazing weather, I miss being the 80 degree sunny weather! And I was starting to get a nice tan, okay now I’m being sarcastic.
08. FOOD! Okay I tried poi that disgusting food those crazy Hawaiians love, yuck! But I must say I’m a sushi kind of girl and there was some “mmmGood” sushi! Also they have sweet bread that I now dream about!!!
07. The giant mountain DIAMOND HEAD, okay it’s not huge but it’s big and I almost died! I’m not the most active person and hiking up it was just awful! I think it was worth it when we got to the top because the view was so beautiful!!!
06. Simply, the ocean. The beach hello, I’ve never seen water that blue and pretty in my 17 years and 339 days of life… I just can’t get over the color!!!
05. Waikiki Beach. Our hotel was in Waikiki, tourist heaven! I mean you always look like a tourist while on vacation with your tanless legs and camera attached to your hand at all times, but in Waikiki that was okay because everyone was like that.
04. Pearl Harbor, I must say I didn’t know much about it until we went, but it will have a lasting impression on me. You walk into the shrine room on the U.S.S. Arizona and see all the names of the men that died, I can’t even describe that feeling
03. Waianae! We camped out with the students from Waianae and it was so much fun! I felt bad because of the time difference I’ve never been so tired in my life, and therefore wasn’t much fun, but everyone there was so nice and I really appreciate the things they did for us.
02. Surfing USA. Well yes I can surf now…. Well on a canoe! It was so much fun we would catch huge waves, I’m not lying they were HUGE and it was awesome! Ha I’m getting pumped just thinking about it.
01. I SWAM WITH DOLPHINS!!!! It has been a dream of mine to swim with dolphins because they’re just so cute and I thought it would be so fun. Erin and I just decided we would go because we wanted to and I’m glad we did. We got to hold the dolphins, ride them, and was pushed across the water by my feet!!! AH, amazing if you ever have the opportunity go for it!

I just want to say it was amazing, and say mahalo for everyone for making this trip possible I will never forget it!!!

Look out Hawaii, here we come!!!

Posted by Aleshia in Uncategorized

Buzz-A-Thon 19 was absolutely AMAZING!!! I don’t know why but I think it was my favorite Buzz since I’ve been in broadcast. Also I mean Harry Potter hour… how entertaining is that?!? Anyways I don’t like to dwell on the past so I’m going to discuss the future…

As of today we go to Hawaii in 12 DAYS!!! I’m so excited I love the beach and warmth. Also I’m excited about just hanging out with the HTV staff whom I love. So I realize I always have a countdown on my blogs so I can’t really disappoint can I?

5. Hawaii= Warmth… It’s freezing here in Missouri like always so I’m ready to be able to walk around outside with shorts and no sweater!

4. Spending late nights with everyone huddled in someone’s room having random, pointless conversations

3. The plane ride… As much as I hate planes this will be a long one where you get meals, movies, and get to go down stairs to go to the bathroom, YAY!

2. The Hawaiian Luau we’re going to have which I’m so incredibly excited for!!! You know you always see them in movies and I finally get to experience one!!!

1. Surfing! I’ve always wanted to surf and I’m going to, that’s a fact! I’m going to “hang loose” and catch some “gnarly” waves (ha ha, I don’t know if surfers really talk like that maybe movies have led me astray)

Countdown From Anaheim

Posted by Aleshia in Uncategorized

California, California here we come… To steal the lyrics from the ever popular Phantom Planet I must admit I had that stuck in my head for the whole week. I first listened to that song as we were flying into Santa Ana just two weeks ago. My excitement built as each second passed on the plane. At least I thought that was excitement it could have been fear. Finally we made it to the warm weather and magical atmosphere. Although we won the major awards at the convention (HA) I was told I could not dwell. So here’s a countdown to my favorite convention moment.

5. Show opening. My onsite competition was awful. Alex Tabor and I were the poor unfortunate souls that had to do the show opening, and I must say it was the worst thing I have ever done. By the time we log and captured everything we had only fifteen minutes left to edit. We were freaking out just putting random b-roll everywhere it was just bad!!!

4. 27 Dresses. I went to see 27 Dresses while we were there. That movie is so adorable, and the theater is amazing! I’m in love with James Marsden and Katherine Heigl is so sweet. If you wanna see a girly movie that’s the one I’d see

3. Stand Up comedy by Lauren Bishop. Every single night when we went to bed Lauren would tell jokes. I must say I have really never got to know Lauren but I love her! She’s so funny! Then the combination of being really tired and the best jokes ever I could not stop laughing.

2. Erin at night. I roomed with Erin and Lauren in the hotel… The best room mates in the world! Anyway the first night there I took a shower real late while the girls went to bed. When I went to bed that night I was greeted by Erin’s arms hugging me and pulling me down. I laughed thinking it was a joke and tried to pull away. Finally I realized the Erin is asleep and it kinda freaked me out.

1. Disneyland! Need I say more? This year I went to California Adventure as well as Disneyland and let me tell you it’s amazing! My new favorite ride of all time is Hollywood Tower Hotel also known as Tower of Terror. Oh my goodness it is so much fun I can’t even explain it!

Yester-Year

Posted by Aleshia in Uncategorized

With 2008 here I’ve been thinking a lot about the good ‘ole 2007! I must admit something about the future scares me, but when I think back on all the good times I realize soon I’ll have even better memories. Enough of the inspiring words… Let’s get to the fun part! Oh yes a countdown of my favorite memories in 2007!

10. I was a junior in 2007, and I miss those days of indecisiveness and no worries!
9. I never had to go to plan D last year for an HTV story… That changed recently.
8. All the seniors last year! Don’t get me wrong being on top is great, but there were some great people back then!
7. All the late nights hanging out with friends. Whether it was going to the movies or playing ping pong/pool at someone’s house I’ve always had fun!
6. All the great people I opened up and became friends with… You know who you are.
5. Last years HTV staff, need I say more. Although I do love this years HTV staff I really miss last years.
4. Going to Anaheim, Ca for the STN convention last March. I have never been to Disneyland, and trust me it’s magical!
3. Making it on HHS cabinet for the 2007-2008 school year!
2. Making the staff of HTV Magazine, once again!
1. My trip to Italy with many of my closest friends, and my cousin over the summer! That was honestly the best vacation, and longest, I’ve ever been on.

But hey I know this year there’s so much more to look forward to. Things like prom, graduation, and going to college. There’s one thing I know that will always stay the same throughout the years… I’m going to be busy and having fun!
So goodbye for now my friends.

Amusing Buzz

Posted by Aleshia in Uncategorized

It’s that time again… time to write yet another blog! This time, however, I’m able to talk about an exciting topic… THE BUZZ-A-THON (cue surprising music)! Anyway I’m very happy to have another Buzz-A-Thon this year, even though it’s only sixteen hours long.

The thing I love most about the Buzz-A-Thon is the extreme stress I see Coach and others go through while planning everything. Not because I think it’s funny (although it kind of is SHH) but because I love getting yelled at so many times just because I’m in the room. Sounds enjoyable doesn’t it?

Every year I have great plans for what I’m going to do during the Buzz-A-Thon, but I never end up doing it because I get too scared… Surprise surprise huh? This year is my last year though and I’m going “all out”! I can’t tell you all my plans you’ll just have to watch it!

Enough about that, I want to talk about my upcoming story. This show I’m finally going to get to do a Tank Away (I have always wanted to do one)! Along with my photographer Jordan Fielding I’m going to Silver Dollar City (an amusement park in Branson) next weekend! We’re going during the “Festival of Lights” which is when the park is lit up with an unbelievable amount of christmas lights. It’s so pretty and honestly who doesn’t want to go to an amusement park? I’ll keep you updated on how the shoot goes!

Goodbye.

Rules For ALL!

Posted by Aleshia in Uncategorized

I sometimes believe I’m a “people” person, but lately people are just irratating! I’ve decided I’m going to make a new list of rules for which people should live by to make me happy.

1. Excessive loud talking in hallways… not really needed. I honestly could care less if Bob loves Sam a lot!
2. Singing… Unless you’re Charles McDonald I don’t want to hear it!
3. Staring… That’s just awkward!
4. Whispering… Secrets don’t make friends, and if i ever get the response “Yeah but friends make secrets” again I’m going to have to cry!
5. Clothing… Yeah it’s supposed to cover everything!
6. Food and Gum… Keep it in your mouth!
7. Sarcasm… Funny at times, but we all do things we don’t want to do.
8. Sharing food… how sweet but get your own food, I’m hungry!
9. Promises… keep them, don’t lie!
10. Texting someone but not on your own phone… I’ve fell victim to prank texts, and it’s not funny!

Honestly if you follow these simple rules we’ll be just fine!

Wild Fire?

Posted by Aleshia in Uncategorized

Hmm… something embarrassing huh? Well honestly… I’ve had many things happen to me! I’ll be the first to admit some of the things I get I deserve, but not to the extent I have.

Alright, for those who don’t know me, I’m terrified of EVERYTHING! A few summers ago my family and I went to Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri. Branson, to those who live in Missouri, is an amazing city full of shows, activities, and theme parks… and Silver Dollar City is the heart of Branson.

Anyways, Silver Dollar City had just got the first upside-down rollar coaster called “Wild Fire!” It is huge and extremely fast! Well what does my family do to me? I’ll tell you they each took a hold of me and dragged my flailing body to the line. I waited in pain as I tried not to think about me slipping out of my buckle and splatting hundreds of feet down! Finally it was my turn to sit on the horrible ride. I plop down with the help of three of my family members hands strapping me to “the chair of death!” Minutes feel like years and the next thing I know the ride begins to move! In one instant moment I let out a wail… not just one but many! With one quick jolt the ride screeched to a hault! A man ran over toward me and saved me… he unbuckled my seat and let me off the ride. I ran off the ride, and looked back to see every single person on the ride staring right back at me!

I’ve never felt so embarrassed in my life! Just to let everyone know… I have been on Wild Fire the entire legnth of the ride as of two years ago. Looking back I wish I would have never done that, but I did overcome my fear so I guess that’s good enough. The moral of the story… the fear is worth the ride!!!

The Deadly Farm

Posted by Aleshia in Uncategorized

I’ve never had such a horrible time trying to write a blog. I’ve just typed countless things and changed my mind. So my favorite story still today is about an “albino farm” north of town. It has created quite the scare and superstition when I was younger, and still today. I remember the first time I heard about those awful creatures that chain anyone in their sihlo who come near the farm. I’ve never been so scared, okay maybe I have… I am afraid of everything! I heard about it at a sleepover, and you know how mean girls are, they locked me in the dark basement and told my the albinoes were going to get me! There’s also a bridge near the farm and if you stop on it your car won’t move! Personally I’ve only been over there once during the day. I’m not scared its just… why risk it? I don’t need to be over there!
Well I think this is a great blog to kick off the year with. Let me tell you I just can’t express how happy I am to blog again. Oh how I’ve missed trying to write things that you will laugh at me for. Goodbye for now!

Terror in LA!

Posted by Aleshia in Uncategorized

What is there to say about the city of LA??? The fact that it is the worst city in the United States comes to mind! Oh LA, the fact that the city is just as colorful as it’s people isn’t a great thing.  Graffiti on the once pretty palm trees, and the wierd people  running around screaming!

I liked LA when I got to the resort, because I felt somewhat safe! I think Disney is a place to feel comfortable. Well I had the most fun on the trip when I was lying in bed listening to music, and going crazy with my friends! I felt sorry for Lillian, she was sick and everyone was told to stay away from her :(

Anyways we won lots of awards on the last day…. But more importantly we went to disneyland!! I saw Goofy and Mickey… but Alladin went MIA!! How could Alladin not be there to meet his future wife, ME! I got a shirt and a key chain which made me very happen!

Well I think I should go because I’m tired and still jet lagged! So I’m going to go to bed, and dream of my sweet Alladin!
